A NOTE ABOUT PREPARATION: Paint is only as good as the surface to which it is applied. In certain circumstances, such as repainting with similar colors and paint type, required surface prep might be nothing more than dusting or wiping the area to be painted with a damp cloth. Inadequate surface prep is the foremost cause of poor results and paint failures. Surface prep is also the part of the work most often short-cut or skipped altogether. What you should know is that all large paint manufacturers will pay the entire cost to re-paint a failed job IF the work was done properly. Painting is not rocket science but there are certain hard and fast procedures that should be followed if one is to expect good results

WHAT TO EXPECT
1)Washing:
is done to remove grease, dust, and other pollutants that will effectively prevent paint from bonding to the surface. Painting over dirt will cause colors to fade or become blotchy in a relatively short time……if it doesn’t begin to flake off first. Consider the cycle created when painting a kitchen without properly cleaning the walls. The paint will become blotchy and ‘appear’ dirty in a relatively short time, so we apply another coat of paint without washing……and ultimately it all starts to peel because the painted-over dirt affects the appearance and the ability of the paint to adhere to the walls. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!

2)SANDING: is done to dull glossy surfaces such as baseboards and doors. Sanding also has the effect of correcting minor surfaces flaws and removing brush marks from wood. In some cases we will ‘scuff-sand’ walls to remove pieces of debris that have collected on walls when the previous coat of paint was still wet. (We know how to prevent this)

3)PATCHING: there is no ‘magic’ product that is suitable for patching all surfaces. Small plaster cracks can be filled with a pre-mixed(usually glue based) patching material. Larger flaws should be patched with plaster of Paris, and deep holes should be patched with a mix of plaster similar to the original construction. Open joints or holes in wood should be filled with glazing putty or caulking compound.

4)NEATNESS: lots of dropcloths….since there is no such thing as splatter-less paint it is imperative that furniture, carpets, etc. be covered. One of our top priorities is to put the paint on the walls and trim; not on light fixtures, door knobs, window panes and floors. THE LOOK

Work done by professional painters should look like work done by professional painters. For most people a home is their largest investment. We take pride in our work so that you may take pride in your investment. We will give you that look.
